Europe went from a poor continent to taking over and carving up the whole world. I tell the whole story of how that happened in three parts. Here’s Part 1.

The Library of Congress has a wonderful map collection which I used to get high res versions of a lot of these old maps. Thank you Library of Congress!

  1. This is the most obvious propaganda channel in the history of YouTube lol ez block Johnny! Get BlockTube if you haven't folks, it just eliminates this from appearing in any feed, don't rely on YT block

  2. When I first saw this video, I was like: Yes, another Johnny Harris video.
But as I watched it, I realised that this is one of your best videos to date (although to be fare, most of yours are). I hope this video blows up with view counts

  3. Why did Europe wait 400 years longer to colonize Africa?
Europe just traded with Africans on the coast and never ventured into Africa until the 1800s with Stanley and Livingstone being the first in the 1850s.

  4. Why do you try to put blame on Christian kingdoms for taking over these lands? It is not like they invented conquering… This is the way our world works from the beginning of human civilization. The strong one conquers the weak one and uses his resources and land for his own benefit. By the way, it keeps on going today with one particular world power, which does not like to share the world with others πŸ˜€

  5. if these other empires were thriving so much how did they allow themselves to be colonized
the story is never black and white
they had some things europe had others, that's it
It's a cool story if you say europeans were miserable compared to the ones they colonized but it's not the case
