  1. Hi all. Just to correct myself. I used the term colony to describe Australia. It was actually a Dominion at this time which was a different status. I was just being flippant but I should be a bit more careful.

  2. I am glad we have nukes. Nukes are not meant to ever be used, because they are a very effective weapon without ever being detonated. The Ukraine war is proving that fact. It's the nuclear deterrent on both sides which is preventing the west from getting involved in this war. If it were not for nukes, the US and NATO would now be fighting a bloody land and air war with Russia, a war which would very likely claim a similar number of lives as a nuclear one over a longer period of time, dragging on and on for what would likely be several years longer than WWII as well, because more countries would get involved, and next thing you know, all countries are fighting. Nukes provide a barrier to war, they make someone like Putin think twice before invading a NATO country. Part of international nuclear doctrine is supposed to be 'don't ever make a nuclear threat', that is highly frowned upon, and it is the reason we are not threatening a nuclear response to Putin. We don't threaten, we defend.

Trident is one of the most important things we have in the UK. We must never allow ourselves to be disarmed like Ukraine was either. Any NATO country is classed as nuclear armed, as they can host US and UK nukes on their soil, this is why Putin doesn't want Ukraine to join NATO.

  3. Fun fact the first nuclear bomb dropped on Japan nearly had to be delivered by a Lancaster bomber as the American planes couldn't accomodate that size of bomb.

  4. Doesn't surprise me, British are some of the smartest people in the world. Look at what they have achieved and invented.
A small island in a cold wet part of the world have amazing thinkers.

  5. BRIT AND USA ARE BHAI BHAI. SO, THEY GOT THEIR NUKES FROM THEIR BROTHER. THERE WAS SO MANY PHYSICISTS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING NUKES, IT IS OBVIOUS SOME OF THE GREAT PHYSICISTS WERE PART OF THE PROJECT PLUS BRITS HAD TOP OF THE LINE SCIENTISTS IN THE WORLD.

  6. Typical American's..douching on deal's.. that's why alot of people around the world. Do not trust them. They only want to deal with you if you got something and they haven't 🤔

  7. You made mention of the high explosive research being based in Aldershot. Is that correct? Sure you don’t mean Aldermaston?

  8. Because they lost their empire so having nuclear weapons would keep them on the world stage as a great power

  9. Fun fact: Britain never cleaned up their testing site leaving radiation everywhere.
And told Australia that they had cleaned it up.

  10. Australia was not a British colony at that time , and had been independent and self governing since 1901 , Australia was not all about self interest like the US but was smart enough to realise a powerful Britain was good for the Western World and Democratic Nations .

  11. so the russians "copied" the bomb while the britts that actually HAD access to the manhattan project "created it on their own" .. get out…

  12. Australia agreed to get nuked by the Brits? If they asked Canada if they could nuke our arctic we would have told them to F off.

  13. With talent like Stephen Hawking, it was just a matter of time and they managed to do it before Hawking came around. Physics is physics, nobody owns it.

  14. 1:30 maintain any international relevance = nuclear power. But how dare North korean or iran or anyone else do the same thing.

  15. I seem to recall Russia threatened the UK with Nukes, ( same story today with putin) some 70 years ago, there was no other option but to safeguard ourselves and build weapons as our American friends couldnt be relied upon to do the right thing.

  16. your wrong we had to give usa radar secrets and nuke secrets before they would join the war , tell the truth dont brush over history , we had to give america all our best material before they would consider joining FACT.
