When the USA fought in South Vietnam, it used the help of its allies to try to win the war. But when the USSR did the same in Afghanistan, there was no such call. So why not? To find out watch this short and simple animated history documentary.

I guess i'm right that it could weaken the warsaw pact's defense against nato
Love the Brezhnev medals
And meanwhile, Russia is busy doing the same shit as last time: "HURRR LOOK HOW STRONK WE ARE, WE CAN CONQUER UKRAINE ALL BY OURSELVES". Going even worse than last time, too, thanks to the other side having an actual army instead of being a bunch of guerilla fighters.
All in all, the Soviets did better than NATO in Afghanistan. They weren't defeated, and left a reasonably stable government in control of the cities that lasted 3 years, and could have lasted more if Yeltsin hadn't cut off military aid…
"Invade" ah yes, sending an army to help the legitimate government is 'invading'
Am I being stupid by not knowing the story behind that non-Warsaw Pact enclave is?
1:29 Arrogance is the often the cause of death, when trying to prove to the world you're a 'superpower' by not needing allies.
Wasn’t the Warsaw Pact also a defence treaty, like NATO?
Doesn’t this mean legally it couldn’t invade Afghanistan, unless Afghanistan declared war on the USSR or any other member of the Warsaw Pact first?
Video request: why didn’t NATO get involved in Northern Ireland during the troubles?
Video idea: Why did Montenegro join WW1?
"Invade" is a hilariously bold statement given that the Afghan government requested military help against the US funded Mujahideen.
I just fail to understand how the so-called superpowers failed to invade Afghanistan evn tho they all claim to be Superman 😅😅🤦♀️wah a disgrace
Well, it really wasn't an invasion of Afghanistan was it? Afghanistan had a King, then it had a coup that transformed it into a republic, then that president got coup'd by their communist party, then other people rebelled against the communsit party, then their communist party asked for help from the USSR which promptly gave so, and the US along the way funded islamic terrorism to undermine soviet expansion and gave us the worst possible situation for the present day, with a country that breeds terrorism like there's no tomorrow
Yes, history matters, but i think all subjects matter!
I ❤ the news clippings 📰
The newspaper articles are hilarious! Well done!!
I wonder how the Volksarmee would have fared against the Mujahideen.
I thought it was obvious since it was a defensive alliance like NATO is supposed to be.
WHat's that one lone dot in the Warsaw pact?
why am i watching this at 3am
How does this guy know all my fucking question
Can't wait for when HM does videos on the Russo-Ukrainian War one day in the not too distant future.
This wasn't a invasion
Many Afghans supported communism
I think that the USSR avoided bringing the intervention in Afghanistan into the discussion of the Warsaw Pact because it would have met opposition. Romania would certainly have opposed it as it did to the intervention in Czechoslovakia in 1968.
I always thought the Soviet Union included the Warsaw pact??
0:31 on this map you didn't included Albania when you were showing Warsaw pact members and USSR the Albanians were also a part of the pact
How about a video covering the creation of Israel in Palestine?
The mock newspaper front page is genius beyond all means
nice touch with the news paper ^^
Would you consider making a video regarding the Chinese invasion of Vietnam? I feel that it's an underrated event.
Who the fuck is P. Vlasov?
surprised you talked about the invasion of afghanistan and didn't mention the Soviets directly killing Hazifullah Amin who was the guy they put in charge to begin with.
It was like the opposite of the Ukraine situation. Ukraine seems to have all of the men it needs, it's the equipment that makes the difference when it comes to foreign aid. Speaking of Afghanistan, I suppose the US wants to show that its support makes a real difference when the people of the country it's supporting actually have the will to fight.
omg u slowed down a little bit…. omg SLOW DOWN…. IF YOU WANT YOUR CHANNEL INTERNATIONAL.
Yes, I did enjoy this episode. Please keep up the great work!
Topic for video: Why was the Moroccan sultanate the first nation to recognise USA as a independent nation?
I mean, there were maoists who fought against the invading soviets.
