  1. Anyone else annoyed every time Tyrol is pronounced Tie-roll in this video rather than the correct Tih-rol? Other than that great video. So missing English Trekie though, it's not the same without him!!!

  2. South Tyrol people are just fine the way it is. Besides Italy would never give it back, the region is too strategic being at the doors of Brenner.

  3. Alto Adige will be returned to Austria, if France returns Corsica, the Savoy region, Monaco becomes annexed to Italy as Dalmatia, Istria, Albania, Malta, Tunisia, Gelusaleme, Italian Crimea and part of the Greek islands, since they have always belonged to the dominion of the Italian states, then subtracted during the colonial era, after the unification of Italy and the defeat in the Second World War. First do justice to Italy and then we will return the Alto Adige

  4. You did not mention that Italy entered WW1 on the side of Allies because territories of Austro-Hungary were promised to them. Therefore we can consider Südtirol as Italian “Spoils of war”.

  5. You are talking and showing the entire Trentino-Alto Adige region calling it wrong South Tyrol. South Tyrol only refers to the province of Bolzano (Alto Adige). Source: i live there.

  6. there is a big mistake in the video. what you refer to as south tyrol is actually the Trentino-Alto Adige region made up of two areas: to the south it is Trentino that has always been an area of Italian culture and ethnicity, to the north of Alto Adige (South Tyrol) an area of Austrian origin. In addition, in Italy there are 5 regions including Trentino-AltoAdige which have a special statute, i.e. they have greater economic and legal autonomy

  7. There is only one reason: GROGRAPHY. The Alps form a natural border: the water that descends from the sky, to the North goes into the Danube River, to the South it goes into the Adige River and the Po. The rest (language, traditions, way of life of Population that call themselves "South Tyrol") are conseguences of temporary foreign domination.

  8. What about Aosta, French speaking region is north-western Italy? Or oppositely, Istrian peninsula? Or my home region of Ticino? Why did it happened or not to be part of Italy?

  9. To everyone talking about the map: under Austrian rule "south Tyrol" also included the Italian speaking trentino (which is now called trentino and distinguished from the German speaking south Tyrol, which took the name exclusively only since passing to Italy). Under Austrian rule there was a German speaking south Tyrol and Italian speaking south Tyrol, which were called literally like this. This is an important detail with plenty of political implications

  10. From the title "South Tyrol" it is immediately clear which side you support.

However Alto Adige is like a woman. They pretend all the traditional benefits without bringing anything to the table of the country – that is Italy – which guarantees them things that are neither in heaven nor on earth.

If a referendum were decided today, with the heart they would go away soon but with their wallet they would remain where they are.

In this sense they are even worse than the Swiss. They do not contribute to the debate and culture in the country, they have no integration with distant regions, they are totally silent and dormant. It is sad because it would be nice to receive their contribution, for better or for worse.

  11. Italy basically earned South Tirol the same way France regained Alsace over Germany : as a spoil of war.
The main and significant discrepancy : unlike Alsatians, who never considered themselves as Germans, South Tyrolean remained faithful to their culture, despite the brutal policy of assimilation under Mussolini.

  12. it is partially inexact to identify the german speaking area of Bozen in south Tirol with the whole former South Tirol. more than half of the former austrian South Tirol was represented by the italian speaking province of Trento, which was naturally attracted toward Italy and politically looking forward for reunion to the Italian territory

  13. There are several regions like this in Europe which have been subject to shifting nationality over the centuries and are now enclaves of cultures and languages that are closer to its neighbouring country’s culture than that of its own. Personally I am convinced that not least thanks to the European Union, the no-visible-border policy of Schengen and EU cohesion policy there is peace in those regions! (For the most part)
