  1. Britain voted labour because labour promised lots of free services, even though labour bankrupted the country in doing so. The 60's "summer of love" era was permitted by the liberal govt because it was a distraction from the problems that were caused by the govt running out of money. The reaction came in the 80's when Thatcher was elected. Then she was vilified for attempting to correct course and cut govt spending. Labour could then look blameless as the Tories took all the blame.

  2. Churchill was definetly wrong, there is no gestapo that arrests people for saying things that aren't permitted, especially on social media. Just like weapons weren't confiscated as predicated in other socialist states.

  3. Considering the difference between the 1945 election and those of '50 and '51 the defining factor is that the Tory press had 5 years to brainwash the voters into putting their 'betters' back into power, and NOTHING has changed since.

  4. Churchill was voted out of office because he was an ally of the UNITED STATES and the average brit hates the United states. They blame the United states for the decline of the British empire because we were the first to declare independence and make it stick, thus proving it could be done. Never kid yourself the British hate us!!every prime minister who has been allied with the United states has been promptly voted out of office

  5. My Mother and Father lived through WW2. They were both working-class people as were their families. They universally HATED Churchill. Churchill had no time for, nor did he care one jot about poor people. In his eyes, the only functions of poor people were to Create Wealth for the Upper classes and to die for their country when required.

  6. It was because the socialists have always targeted takeovers after global turmoil, it's the only time they have ever succeeded it taking power. Britain has never been great since as the socialists cemented structures that have choked the country ever since

  7. Yes! It “raises the question.” It does not “beg the question,” an expression I’m heartily sick of hearing misused.

“Begging the question” is a logical fallacy wherein the premises assume the truth of the conclusion. For example, if I say that the Bible is the word of God because the Bible says so, I beg the question.

Thank you for not misusing this expression.

  8. I already know. He was voted out, despite being right about the Nazis during his wilderness years and stepping in after the Norway disaster in 1940 and won the war, because he said he was against the HS being formed.

But he said no NHS in 1945, didn't he. That small thing meant that Atlee won in a landslide.

This is basic, Secondary School history, can't you answer any tough questions ever, instead of the blatantly obvious?

Why did people want an NHS, well, during the Blitz, you have these Nazeyes, firebombing you every night. Right, so at the hospital, d'you think there was time to quibble over people's insurance details, with Hundreds, Thousands of people pouring in for treatment?

Evidently not, so the insurance system had to be suspended, and hospitals became free at the point of access. After being promised free healthcare after WWI and that being welched on as well, people were not going for Churchill's "rug-pull" again.

  9. Simple answer. Churchill was actively opposed to the introduction of the National Health Service. Most British people even middle class ones wanted an NHS. People respected Churchill as a wartime leader.

  10. There was a lot of class resentment. The average family had again sent off their relatives to war because of the miscalculations of their leaders

They were tired of having do, of shortages, of rationing, of being looked down upon.

Many of those of overseas service had seen the inequities wrought by the empire, and wondered then about their lot in that system.

They were tired of it, they wanted the peace their service had won.

And Churchill was strangely tone deaf about it all.

  11. Churchill was a memory of the war. The people wanted to leave the war behind. There was rationing until 1954. Britain had to pay billions to the US who passed the money on to rebuild Germany.

  12. In working class areas the Tories were hated. People might have been willing to tolerate Churchill, as a war leader, but his party was detested.
Workers also remembered his ordering troops to fire on striking Welsh miners when he was home secretary.
